I want to say this is one of my favorite videos I have watched you make‼️. Living in Oklahoma my grandmother put on a pot of pinto “BROWN” beans every morning before she mopped her way out the back door headed for her gardens🥰. We had fresh hot cornbread from scratch and pinto beans everyday along with what she cooked for our lunch. It still is one of my favorite dishes and it’s always interesting to see how differently it is cooked across the south👍🏼. I’ve heard of Settlers Beans but have never had them. Yours look soooo good I’m gonna give them a try‼️. And we ate butter beans too🥰.

If you put oil in skillet and heat it before you put the cornbread batter into it. And bring it out to the top of stove and pour it into the skillet and it’ll be frying as you are pouring and then put it back into the oven and bake
It just makes it really crunchy which I like crunchy

Preheat over for cornbread or start cold?
Might I suggest cooked rice? You could serve the beans over it and it could absorb that yummy juice.

Tammy, I like cornbread very brown and crunchy. When I make beans, I invariably mix up cornbread and bake it up in a waffle iron. It’s incredible!

I make the old settlers baked beans a lot because always a family request at get togethers. My sisters boys love these. Recommend them if anyone never made them.

My fav is red beans and rice but I’ve always made it with ham will have to try with sausage. I learned to love this from a friend in KY not normally a Midwest thing

I’ve always heard you need to boil red kidney beans at a hard boil for 10 to 15 minutes and then turn them down to low or put them in the crockpot. Something to do with the poisonous in them if they’re not cooked properly brought to a certain temperature.
